Holland takes checkers at Hattiesburg and Whynot for Mississippi sweep
Chase Holland picked up his fifth and sixth Modified feature victories over the year over the weekend with a pair of triumphs in the Magnolia State. He also extended his winning streak to three consecutive events and has come out on top in five of his last six feature starts.
On Friday, Holland competed in the Friday Night Fueled event at the quarter-mile Hattiesburg (Mississippi) Speedway. He started his No. 45 Modified on the pole and claimed the win in the 15-lap feature over Hunter Breland, Heath Wiliams, Robert Casada and David Guthrie.
Saturday saw Holland and his team move onto Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, Mississippi, to participate in the 12th annual Battle of the States. The event was initially slated as the quarter-mile track’s season opener in mid-March, but it was postponed due to weather.
Holland qualified with the third-quickest time and won his heat race after starting in the third position. He began the 20-lap main event from the top spot and wired the field, taking the $1,000 victory 5.627 seconds ahead of Breland. Third place went to Toby Hodge, with Kevin Cumbie coming home fourth and Greg Hollingsworth rounding out the top five.
