Inside Line Promotions – COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (May 28, 2025) – Trey Starks battled back for his sixth top-five result of the season last Saturday at Skagit Speedway.

“The night started out good as we went quick time,” he said. “We started fourth in the heat race and actually had the lead coming back across the line on the opening lap, which would have given me the pole for the feature if I had won the heat race. There was a car that spun before we completed the lap so we had a complete restart. That moved us to starting third and we didn’t get as good of a start so we only made it to second.

“We drew the No. 5 in the feature redraw and started fifth in the feature. We were battling for fourth in the first 10 laps or so. We got into a position between a car in front of me and a lapped car that got us out of shape. We ended up spun out and had to go to the back. I think we restarted around 15th and we came back up to fifth. Despite the results, the car was really fast so I feel good about that. It was a bummer about the result, but I felt if we had things go our way we would have been a contender.”

Starks currently holds a three-point lead in the championship standings as he is one of only three drivers with a top five during each of the first three 410ci winged sprint car races this season at the track.

He wrapped up the weekend on Sunday by traveling to Cottage Grove Speedway for the final night of the Marvin Smith Memorial Grove Classic.

“We went quick time and that gave us the pole of the first heat race,” he said. “I didn’t get as good of a start as I needed to. The track was a bit wet and when I tried to get the lead back going into turn one I ended up off the end of the track. We had to go to the back and made it to third.

“You had to win to end up in the feature redraw so that put us starting 13th. By Lap 25, we were up to sixth or seventh. We ended up tangled with a lapped car in traffic. It wasn’t that big of a deal, but somehow in that mix-up a part poked a hole in the housing of the rear end so that ended our night right there.”

Starks was credited with a 20th-place result.

“It wasn’t an ideal finish, but I was glad we got to go down there and participate,” he said. “It’s a big event and we always look forward to racing in it when we can.”

Starks returns to Skagit Speedway this Saturday when he will compete in both the 410ci winged sprint car and 360ci winged sprint car divisions. He won both features the last time the two classes raced on the same night earlier this month.
