First Time For Everything

LINCOLN — Editor's Note: The rules for the 305 Sprints will be the feature tonight at Lincoln Speedway. It will be the same as the Burlington, Iowa rules. The Speedway will also feature Pro Lates, Modifieds, Street Stocks, Compacts. The rain date will be June 23 of this year.

Max Pozsgai will enter his first ever race driving a 305 sprint car with the highest expectations.

The owner of the car, Brian Wagoner, has told Pozsgai he expects nothing less than a drive down victory lane as he prepares to drive the 305 sprint car for the first time in his career as part of the feature tonight at Lincoln Speedway.

"It's been pretty much the goal my whole life to drive a sprint car," Pozsgai said. "That is something that I have always wanted to do. "(The Wagoner's) pretty much told him they want (their car) to be put in front so I pretty much have no excuses (not to win)."

Pozsgai isn't phased from his lack of experience of being in a 305 Sprint Car.

"I mean it is just something that I am going to have to adapt to," Pozsgai said. "The car is the same weight and is a bigger car with a little motor. I am just going to have to follow all of my racing instincts when I go onto the track. I will have to get used to the motor and the horsepower. With the horsepower-ratio of the mini sprints you have to have quick reaction time too."

Pozsgai, is currently a member of Wagoner Motorsports 305 Sprint Cars that include Nathan Charron, Brian's son Ben Wagoner and Brian Artitage in what they refer to themselves as "Team 305."

The "305" has already experienced success with it with a victory and a near-victory experienced by Charron three weeks ago in victory lane at Lincoln Speedway.

"It's actually an older car," Pozsgai said. "We still have to be really fast and competitive with it even though it's an older car."

Pozsgai's confidence hasn't wavered from his ability to drive.

"Probably the biggest thing compared to the mini from the 305 is that It is just going to be a bigger car.t," Pozsgai said. "You got to have the same driving style that you have in the mini sprint because there isn't a ton of horsepower."

The "team 305," who takes turn racing ,said they know what it will take to win according to Pozsgai.

"It's a team effort and you can still have the fastest car but on any given night you could still not win," Pozsgai said. "All it takes is for one $5 piece on the car to break on the last lap and you might not win. Our team is shooting to win and we will go out and give our best finish and (finishing first) is what we are aiming for."
