Breaking Down the Points

This weekend the Perth Motorplex will play host to the final round of the Pro Dirt Series for 2024/25 and although it may not always look like it, the battle is far from over.

Coming into the show, Jamie Oldfield (Oldfield Racing) holds the lead on 1227 points, some 79 points clear of second-placed Warren Oldfield.

With a maximum of 121 points on the line (10 points for a heat win (each driver will contest two), one hundred points for a feature win, and a bonus point also on offer for either Hard Charger or Pole Position), mathematically it is possible for Warren, third-placed Joe Chalmers, or even fourth-placed Luke Halliday to take the series win, but for that to happen, Jamie would need to not show up!

However, if Jamie were to show up and hit the track but have a disastrous night, not finish either of his heats, and not make the feature, he would still grab fifty points. If he does this, he wins as the gap of 129 points would be insurmountable. Knowing Jamie though, he will be wanting to solidify his season with a win!

All eyes however will be on the battle for second: Warren (Oldfield Racing) on 1148 points and Joe (Team BCM Motorsport:) on 1143 coming into the show. A five-point margin is very little in the scheme of things and if Joe can get some better heat results than Warren, it will all come down to the feature race.

Of course, fourth-placed Halliday (Halliday Racing) would love to play spoiler, and he is only thirty-three points behind Joe coming into the show. This means with thirty-eight points between second, third and fourth, any driver that comes home with a wet sail in the final feature is in with a chance, especially if other results go their way.

Rod Musarra (Team Rocket) is fifth in the rankings coming into the final show, ninety-one points behind Halliday, so mathematically it is a gap he could close, but even with a perfect night he would struggle to advance too far up the standings.

However, Tasmanian Brad Smith (Brad Smith Devil Motorsports 6T) is just twenty points behind him and could well also make his way into the top five.

No matter which way you look, Saturday night’s battle is going to be enthralling, and with the XLI Perth Motorplex Late Model Track Championship also on the line (with a very similar breakdown to the Pro Dirt Series at play with Jamie leading and Joe, Warren and Luke all fighting it out for second), you won't want to miss a second of the action!
