Warren Finishes Season on a High!

Tonight at the Perth Motorplex would see the final Pro Dirt Series round of the season thanks to Maddington Toyota and it was Warren Oldfield (Oldfield Racing) who outshone the rest of the field to claim the finale!

Twenty-one cars would front for the nights racing with Nathan Richards and Matt Nylander (Nylander Motorsport) out early, while heat wins were shared by Jamie Oldfield (Oldfield Racing), David Nylander (Nylander Motorsport), Warren Oldfield and Jason Oldfield (Oldfield Racing).

Eighteen cars would take the green in the feature after Ryan Huxtable (@HuxyRacing) was forced to the infield before the start with a flat tyre.
Courtesy of their heat race results Warren and Nylander would share the front row, and as the race went green Warren was quickly into the lead.

Behind him Joe Chalmers (Team BCM Motorsport:) made a move to dive by Nylander, Brent Vosbergen (Team Vosbergen Racing - TVR) following shortly behind to move into third, but the yellows were out quickly as Peter Walker (Team Eighty1 Racing) came to a stop in turn two after contact with David Boyes (Boyes Motorsport).

This would set up a complete restart.

Warren was again quickly away on the next start, with Nylander moving low and able to hold Chalmers off slightly longer, Chalmers then shifting high and moving into second on the back straight.

Behind them Jamie Oldfield was fourth but under siege from Vosbergen, the duo going side by side for the first two laps before Brad Smith (Brad Smith Devil Motorsports 6T) also arrived on the scene and got by Vosbergen only for the yellow lights to come on as Rod Musarra (Team Rocket) came to a stop against the turn two wall.

Warren led away as the race resumed, Chalmers and Nylander going side by side for second and Jamie tried all he could to get by the duo while further back Brad Blake was on a charge and moved into fifth past Vosbergen.

Jamie closed the gap on Chalmers and Nylander, all of a sudden a three way battle for second with the trio going two and three wide a number of times over the next few laps.

Chalmers would come out on top and set out after leader Warren who was over three seconds ahead at this point, while Nylander held down third ahead of Jamie and Blake.

With eleven complete Blake would slow and head infield, seeing Vosbergen move back into fifth, while at the same time Jamie got around Nylander to take over third place, though Nylander would not give up and kept showing the nose underneath.

Slowly Joe would eat into Warren’s lead, the gap down to just over two seconds at the halfway point.

Warren however got back into his rhythm and was able to extend his lead out once again over the next five laps, over three seconds ahead with ten laps remaining.

Nylander got back underneath Jamie in traffic with eight laps remaining, while Vosbergen was also right there and began to put Jamie under pressure.
With five remaining Warren’s lead was back down to 1.716 seconds, the battle for third nearly half a lap behind.

Vosbergen had a moment and dropped back behind Jamie after the duo made contact, but all eyes were on the battle at the front, with Joe now riding the fence, sending sparks showering and only half a second behind with two to go as he continued to close the gap.

There was 0.395 seconds between the lead as the white flag flew, and in the run to the chequers, with lapped traffic spread all across the track, Warren would uncharacteristically go high as Joe went low.

In what was a thrilling run to the line, Warren able to hang on by just 0.328 seconds ahead of Chalmers while David Nylander claimed third.

Brent Vosbergen would be fourth ahead of Jamie Oldfield in fifth, which was enough to secure him the overall Pro Dirt Series Title and the Perth Motorplex Track Championship, with a further wrap up of these results to follow in the coming days.
