Sanders nabs pair of top-10 finishes in Northern Lights Modified Series opener
Rodney Sanders took part in the first-ever shows for the new USRA Northern Lights Modified Series over the weekend, grabbing two solid results during the Dairyland Showdown at Mississippi Thunder Speedway.
After the slated opener was rained out on Thursday at the 1/3-mile oval in Fountain City, Wisconsin, Sanders was among 35 Modified drivers at the track for Friday’s festivities. He finished sixth in his heat race aboard his Wichita Tank Racing No. 20 machine, then won his B-Main from the pole. He started 21st in the 30-lap, $2,000-to-win feature and charged ahead 15 positions to finish sixth.
On Saturday, Sanders competed in a 32-car USRA Modified field with a $3,000 winner’s share up for grabs. He set the quickest time in his qualifying group and finished second in his heat. He rolled off from the seventh spot in the 35-lap A-Main and came home eighth.
