Trio of top-10 finishes for Sanders in Modified World Championship

From Wednesday through Saturday, Rodney Sanders and his ARMI Contractors No. 20 Modified team chased a $100,025 first-place payday in the inaugural Modified World Championship at Mississippi Thunder Speedway. In the four-day event, Sanders finished no worse than seventh at the 1/3-mile speed plant in Fountain City, Wisconsin.

Qualifying for the field of more than 90 Modifieds kicked off the festivities on Wednesday, with racing action getting underway the next night. Sanders won his Thursday heat race from the pole and began the first of two 30-lap, $2,525-to-win A-Mains from the fifth position. He finished seventh.

On Friday, Sanders again took the checkers in his heat after starting first. He then rolled off fifth in the first $2,525-to-win feature. He climbed one spot for a fourth-place result behind Lucas Lee, Kyle Strickler and Tom Berry Jr. Fifth place went to Alex Williamson.

Sanders’ Friday effort locked him into Saturday’s 80-lap finale paying more than $100,000 to win. He started 14th in the race and mounted an impressive charge through the field to finish fourth. He chased Drake Troutman, Jim Chisholm and Tyler Nicely across the start-finish line, with Stricker taking fifth.
