Gary Christian turns in best finish of 6th at Modified World Championship
A chance at a $100,025 first-place payday took Gary Christian to Mississippi Thunder Speedway for the inaugural Modified World Championship from Wednesday through Saturday. Racing in a field of more than 90 cars, Christian competed in a trio of features and scored a top-10 finish during the event.
On Wednesday, qualifying at the 1/3-mile track in Fountain City, Wisconsin, helped set the field for Thursday and Friday preliminary action. In his Thursday heat race, Christian started third and took the checkers fourth aboard his Smith Equipment Company No. 58x machine. He then started eighth in the first of two 30-lap, $2,525-to-win features. He picked up two spots and finished sixth.
Friday saw Christian again finish fourth in his heat. He went on to start 16th and come home 12th in his 30-lap A-Main paying $2,525 to win.
The next night, Christian used a strong runner-up result in his B-Main to earn a spot in the finale offering more than $100,000 to the winner. He started 22nd and finished 20th in the 80-lap main event.
