Schaeffer's Oil Southern Nationals
Sam Seawright Secures Second Career Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series Win at North Georgia Speedway
(CHATSWORTH, GEORGIA) Sam Seawright celebrated in Schaeffer's Oil Southern Nationals Series presented by Coltman Farms Racing and fueled by GoSunoco victory lane for the second time in his career on Friday night at North Georgia Speedway! After timing in second quickest in FK Rod Ends qualifying, Sam won his heat race to earn the outside of the front row for the start of the 53-lap headliner. The Fort Payne, Alabama ace then worked his way past racelong leader Dale McDowell on lap 29 and led the remainder of the distance at the Chatsworth, Georgia oval to secure the $10,053 first place prize money.
It wasn’t easy for Seawright in the waning laps; however, as red-hot Zack Mitchell got things wound up on the high side of the racetrack and ultimately finished a mere 0.229 of a second behind at the unfurling of the checkered flag. Polesitter Dale McDowell, who led the first 28 circuits, rounded out the podium in third. Seventh-starting Tucker Anderson advanced past a trio of racecars to place fourth, while eleventh-starting Booger Brooks blasted past six competitors to earn the final spot inside of the top five.
The entertaining race was slowed by only two caution flags with one of those being for the initial start of the contest. The final yellow flag flew on lap thirteen when title contender Jimmy Owens slowed with a flat left rear tire. The Newport, Tennessee ace returned to the track at the tail and rebounded to salvage a twelfth place showing. Following the penultimate event at North Georgia and with only each drivers’ best nine finishes counting towards the point standings, Garrett Smith currently leads by four markers over Jimmy Owens with Kaede Loudy sitting only eight points out of the top spot.
“I kind of followed Dale (McDowell) there and I could just see where I could gain on him,” quoted the winning Seawright after the Young Memorial. “I could roll the middle and then I moved up and he moved up and I was worried I was in some trouble then. But, I moved back down the track and I was actually better down there. I had an awesome racecar and I just have to thank everyone involved with our program!”
Seawright piloted a #16 Mach X Chassis powered by an Andy Durham Racing Engine with sponsorship in part from Baird Seawright Racing, Cove 2 Coast Marine, Base Racing Fuel, Coltman Farms Racing, AGCOR Steel, Grow Pediatric Therapy, Farm Systems Inc., Lance Kittle Truck and Trailer Repair, J&R Excavating, Penske Racing Shocks, and Swift Springs.
A total of 27 Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series competitors were on the grounds at North Georgia Speedway for the tenth round of the miniseries. Dale McDowell clicked off the fastest lap overall during both MRP Fantasy Racing Hot Laps and in FK Rod Ends qualifying. The three heat races were won by McDowell, Sam Seawright, and David Payne. The lone B-Main was captured by Will Roland, while series regulars Garrett Smith and Beckham Malone received provisionals to start shotgun on the feature field.
The eleventh and final event of the 2025 Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series presented by Coltman Farms Racing and fueled by Sunoco will take place on Saturday, July 26 at the bad-fast Tazewell Speedway in Tazewell, Tennessee. For the 21st straight year at Tazewell, a Champion will be crowned in Saturday’s $10,053 to win Ray Varner Ford 53.
