Pockets $5,000 in Memorial Day Weekend Opener

HAMPTON, Ga. (05/27/25) – Ashton Winger kickstarted his Memorial Day weekend with a $5,000 victory on Friday night at Tri-City Speedway aboard his Mathews Motorsports No. 12 Super K Express / Recreational Vehicle Select / Fusion Race Car / Durham Racing Engine Super Late Model.

The Hampton, Georgia native led all 30 laps en route to his first career MARS Late Model Championship Series victory, marking his first win of the 2025 season.

“It's been so long since I won, I'm a little out of practice. This is the first win with our cars we’ve been building, the Fusion Race Cars," Winger said, thanking team owner Jeff Mathews, his father, crew and sponsors. "I'm just really, really lucky to get to do what I love to do and come to awesome racetracks like this in front of all these awesome people.”

Winger’s extended Memorial Day weekend kicked off Friday with the MARS Late Model Championship Series opener at Tri-City Speedway.

Among a 31-car field of Super Late Models at the 3/8-mile oval, Winger advanced to the feature with an impressive fifth-to-second run in his heat race. Starting from the front row, Winger seized the lead on the opening circuit and never looked back, leading all 30 laps to secure his first victory of the 2025 season.

Winger collected a $5,000 payday for the flag-to-flag triumph, finishing ahead of runner-up Jake Little and third-place Tony Jackson Jr.

Looking to repeat in Saturday’s FALS Triple Down Shootout at Fairbury Speedway, Winger was poised for another strong run until a flat tire on lap 28—while running fifth—brought a premature end to his night.

He rebounded on Sunday with a solid fifth-place finish in the weekend finale at Spoon River Speedway, closing out the tripleheader on a positive note.

The preparation begins with Wednesday’s FloRacing Night in America event, serving as a final tune-up ahead of the 31st running of the crown jewel event. Winger’s upcoming schedule is as follows:

June 4: FloRacing Night in America – $20,000-to-win
June 5: Dirt Late Model Dream Preliminary – $30,000-to-win
