Podium finish with World of Outlaws at River Cities; runner-up in Hell Tour show at Springfield
Picking up a DIRTcar Summer Nationals race before the World of Outlaws weekend, Ashton Winger joined a 45-car field at Springfield (Mo.) Raceway on Tuesday afternoon for a $5,000-to-win show.
Grabbing a third-place finish in his heat race, Winger started 11th and charged toward the front of the field, coming out one spot short of the win in second. He trailed Tyler Erb while Brandon Sheppard completed the podium.
Headed further North to join the World of Outlaws Real American Beer Series, the Mathews Motorsports team invaded River Cities Speedway (Grand Forks, N.D.) on Friday after Thursday night's opener was rained out.
Ashton laid down the third-quickest lap in his qualifying group before he picked up a heat race win and redrew the outside pole for the $12,000-to-win main event. Winger led 27 circuits before he lost the lead and settled for a third-place finish behind Nick Hoffman and Dennis Erb Jr.
Winger finished 14th at Norman County Raceway (Ada, Minn.) on Saturday before he closed the weekend in 22nd at Nodak Speedway (Minot, N.D.) on Sunday.
Ashton is now 11th in the WoO point standings.
