Willard competes in quartet of events over Memorial Day weekend

A busy stretch of racing was on the docket for Brennon Willard over the Memorial Day holiday weekend as he competed on four consecutive days with two Super Late Model touring series.

First up, Willard was part of preliminary action during the 33rd annual Show-Me 100 festivities at the pristine 3/8-mile Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri. On Thursday, he competed in a 49-car Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series field in the 12th annual Cowboy Classic. He drove his Allgaier Performance No. 3 Super Late Model to an eighth-place result in his heat, then started 13th and finished 10th in his B-Main to bring his night to a close in advance of the 45-lap, $10,000-to-win feautre.

For the next three nights, Willard joined the Midwest Auto Racing Series (MARS) Late Model Championship for three $5,000-to-win shows in Illinois.

On Friday, he was among 31 MARS Late Model competitors at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City. Willard took fifth in his heat and third in the consolation race on the 3/8-mile track, positioning him 19th to begin the 30-lap feature. He finished 17th.

At the quarter-mile Fairbury Speedway on Saturday, 50 MARS Late Models filled the pit area for the FALS Triple Down Shootout, necessitating six heat races. Willard finished fifth in his heat and sixth in his B-Main, starting him 23rd in the 40-lap main event. He registered a 23rd-place result with a DNF.

Thirty-three MARS Late Models were at the 3/8-mile Spoon River Speedway in Canton when the series' holiday schedule wrapped up with the Gary Cook Jr. Memorial on Sunday. After finishing seventh in his heat and fourth in his B-Feature, Willard rolled off 22nd to begin the A-Main. He picked up eight spots in the 40-lap race and came home 14th.

Willard is currently 13th in MARS Late Model Championship points.
