Brennon Willard takes on Illinois Valley Showdown
A trip to LaSalle (Illinois) Speedway for the MARS Late Model Championship's Illinois Valley Showdown event completed Brennon Willard’s May racing slate. He participated in fields featuring more than 30 strong MARS Late Models each night at the quarter-mile track.
On Friday, the event got underway with the Twisted Twin 25s. After driving his Schaeffer’s Racing Oil No. 3 Super Late Model to a sixth-place finish in his heat race, Willard was runner-up in the B-Main to earn a spot in the night’s pair of $5,000-to-win features. He rolled off 17th and finished 19th in the first 25-lap race, then started 19th and recorded a 19th-place result with a DNF in the second 25-lapper.
In the Saturday finale, Willard took third in his heat, starting him ninth in the evening’s 75-lap, $25,000-to-win main event. He ran inside the top 10 early before ultimately finishing 14th.
With the LaSalle races in the books, Willard is 13th in MARS Late Model Championship points.
