Carlos Ahumada Jr. grabs Winter Meltdown win
Texas Racer Readies for King of America XIV
EL PASO, Texas (03/17/25) – A weekend at his home track proved lucrative for Carlos Ahumada Jr. as he scored one victory and a pair of top-five finishes in the Winter Meltdown at Vado Speedway Park.
The pilot of the Hacienda Mechanical / Penske Racing Shocks No. 65x Hughes Racing Chassis Modified swept Saturday’s portion of the two-day event to claim his first win of the season and the $3,000 paycheck.
“My car was outstanding tonight, and I owe a big thanks to my crew for that," Ahumada said in victory lane. "We performed well last night, but I'm absolutely thrilled with tonight’s result. We've been working tirelessly in the shop, and it's rewarding to see our efforts paying off. We'll take a few weeks to regroup before heading to Wheatland for the King of America."
In the event finale on Saturday, Ahuamda was among 26 competitors looking for the $3,000 first-place prize in the USRA Modified division. He won his heat race in his Hacienda Motorsports No. 65x machine and started third in the 25-lap A-Main. He took the lead on the first circuit and wired the field for his first feature victory of the year. He took the checkered flag 2.069 seconds ahead of Mark Smith, with Rodney Sanders, Jake Gallardo and Nick Rivera completing the top five.
Saturday’s win was the conclusion of a strong weekend for Ahumada, which started on Friday when he raced in a 28-car USRA Modified field at Vado.
On Friday evening, Ahumada finished fourth in his heat and started eighth in the 25-lap, $2,000-to-win A-Main. He climbed three positions in the race and came home fifth behind Sanders, Jake Gallardo, Fito Gallardo and C.J Hulsey.
