Wagamon Wins Wild Mod Nationals Main from 16th

Ogilvie, MN (May23) – Opening night of the Minnesota Truck Headquarters MN Modified Nationals presented by FYE Motorsports welcomed 94 drivers to Wagamon’s Ogilvie Raceway on a beautiful Friday night. Night 1 did not disappoint, as back-to-back exciting features entertained fans while Clayton Wagamon, Shane Sabraski, Lucas Rodin, Tyler Larson and Bobie Arnes took home the hardware.

The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds were first up for the night, and after a tough go the opening laps, the remainder of the race was impressive. Lucas Rodin claimed the race lead with Jake Smith and Wyatt Boyum close by. Rodin and Smith took advantage of a restart and drove away from the field as they swapped for the top point. Smith finally locked in the lead, however Rodin continued to chase the #21S. Jason VandeKamp, who started 18th, worked his way into fourth and put pressure on Boyum for third. With a handful of laps to go, VandeKamp secured third and looked ahead at the leaders. Rodin was back at Smith’s door, and they were side by side for first. The final laps were anyone’s race as Smith and Rodin remained glued to one another, until Lucas Rodin slid by Smith, and took the win. Jake Smith settled for second with Jason VandeKamp, Wyatt Boyum and Jake Hagemann as the top five.

Shane Sabraski claimed the lead at the end of lap one in the WISSOTA Super Stock feature, but an early caution slowed the racers. James Trantina challenged Sabraski when the green reappeared, but Sabraski retained the point. Dexton Koch made his way to third and raced to Trantina’s door for second. Laps passed with Trantina and Koch parallel in the curves, and nose to nose at the line. Koch eventually got the point and chased after Sabraski. Koch reeled in the leader and dove low to attempt to pass. Sabraski however held his position as the white flag was raised. Sabraski and Dexton had a slower car in sight, but Shane Sabraski was unphased as he took the checkers. Dexton Koch, Dylan Nelson, Denis Czech and Trevor Nelson grabbed points two through five.

Travis Schulte and Kyle Kirberger brought the WISSOTA Modifieds to the stand, and Schulte sped away with the lead. Even after a quick caution, Schulte once again stretched his lead while everyone else fought for positions. Jody Bellefeuille moved into second and Clayton Wagamon, who started 16th, found his way to third. Wagamon dove low and slid up the race surface to pass Bellefeuille and looked ahead to find Schulte. Schulte had slower traffic in his view, with Wagamon nearly 2.5 seconds behind him. Wagamon closed the gap quickly as he and Schulte began to make their way through traffic. As the top two were slowed, Bellefeuille caught the leaders, and the top three remained close and made their calculated moves. The final laps counted down with Schulte and Wagamon nearly door to door with slower drivers sandwiched in. As the checkers raised, both drivers gave their all, and Clayton Wagamon edged out the win. Travis Schulte, Jody Bellefeuille, Ryan Gierke and Landon Atkinson were the top five finishers at the exhilarating race’s close.

The WISSOTA Mod Fours were next on the agenda and Tyler Larson took the immediate lead. Dean Larson took second while Blake Hawker and Rowan Tramm battled for third. Hawker took the point and then passed Dean Larson without hesitation. Hawker continued forward chasing after the leader, however he lost his footing in the curve and the yellow flew. Tyler Larson was back in command on the restart with Tramm to his rear. Tyler Larson and Tramm established a solid lead, and although Tramm kept close, he didn’t quite have enough to get the leader. Rowan Tramm finished second with Dean Larson, Robert Holtquist and Ashton Schwinn in points two through five, while Tyler Larson visited victory lane.

Bobie Arnes and Tony Jenson battled the opening laps of the WISSOTA Hornet feature with Brendan Bockwitz and Alexis Reynolds in third and fourth respectively. Jenson took the top point, but Arnes didn’t let him get too far. They continued to race close, and on lap seven, Arnes retook the lead. The laps passed without issue, and Bobie Arnes took his #94A to victory lane with remaining points going to Tony Jenson, Bendan Bockwitz and Alexis Reynolds.

Night 2 of the MTH MN Mod Nationals presented by FYE Motorsports will kick off Saturday night at 7:00pm.
