Dietrich Thrills Crowd with 410 Sprint Car Victory at Clinton County Speedway
Mill Hall; PA – The 410 Sprint Cars made this first of two appearances this season at the Clinton County Speedway in front of a full crowd. Billy Dietrich of Aspers, PA made the crowd cheer in an exciting victory, presented by the Clinton County Tourism Bureau and the Clinton County Chamber of Commerce, over Ryan Smith of Fleetwood, PA and Lucas Wolfe of Mechanicsburg, PA. Jeffrey Weaver of Lock Haven won the Mason Dixon 270 Micro Sprint Feature event and Matt Weaver of Madisonburg won the 4-Cylinder feature.
Fast time of the night was set by Brock Zearfoss of Jonestown, PA with a time of 11.978 seconds. The “Jonestown Jet” drew the pole position and started along side of Dietrich. Zearfoss took the early lead over Dietrich, Lucas Wolfe, Smith, and Jordan Givler of Enola. On lap number four, Smith passed Wolfe, as Deitrich was pressuring Zearfoss. On lap number eight Dietrich took the lead, and Smith took the second postion away from Zearfoss on lap number 11. The yellow flag came out on lap number 13, when the sixth place car of Garrett Bard from Wells Tannery slid into the wall in turn number two. A lap later the caution flag waved again when a two car incident involving Chad Trout of Dover, PA and JJ Loss of Hanover spun in turn three.
The restart gave Dietrich a clear racetrack with Smith, Wolfe, Zearfoss and Givler running in the top five. As the top five approached the completion of lap number 20, the running order remained the same for the top five, but lapped traffic made things interesting. At times Dietrich was held up by lapped traffic allowing Smith to close in and the next lap he could clear a lapped car putting a marker between him and Smith.
The racing continued to be intense as the leaders worked their way through the lapped traffic. On lap number 30 Dietrich maintained the lead by a slim margin over Smith. With two laps remaining, Smith and Wolfe closed in as the fifth place car of Jordan Givler pulled in with a mechanical issue. Dietrich held on to claim the $7,500 pay day over Smith and Wolfe. Zearfoss finished fourth and Logan Rumsey completed the top five. Sixth through tenth were Jonathan Preston, Derek Hauck, Mark Smith, Chris Frank, and Cameron Smith
Heat races were won by Zearfoss, Dietrich, Wolfe and Bard. B-Main was won by Cameron Smith
Jeffrey Weaver started on the pole for the Mason Dixon 270 Micro Sprint Feature. Weaver took the lead at the drop of the green flag with Middleburg’s Garrison Zook running in second. Ninth place starter and last week’s feature winner, Mac Wert quickly moved his way through the field and was up to second by lap number 5. On lap number 7 Williamsport’s Logan Hammaker moved into the top three. With five laps remaining Weaver was leading, Wert, Hammaker, Glenn Macomber and Nathan Bacon. Macomber and Hammaker swapped positions for several of the final laps. Weaver would lead every lap for the win over Wert, Macomber, Hammaker and Bacon. Sixth through tenth were Quinn Roberts; Marshall Labuda; J T Horwat; Hunter Zimmerman; and Zac Horwat. Heat races were won by Glenn Macomber, Jeff Weaver Jr, Mac Wert
Matt Weaver started on the pole alongside Bellefonte’s Kevin Trimpey for the start of the 4 Cylinder main event. Weaver took the lead with Garret Lucas quickly moving into second. Zak Kline passed Lucas by the completion of lap number three and set his sights on Weaver. At the halfway point, Weaver was leading Kline, Lucas, Larry Beachel and Tim TenEyck. With only two laps remaining Kline was able to get alongside Weaver and the two touched as they exited turn four. Weaver kept the momentum and held a slight advantage as the duo raced into turn one. Weaver never gave up the lead to claim the win over Kline. Larry Beachel charged into third on the final lap followed by Garrett Lucas; and Tim TenEyck. Sixth through tenth were Coty Maines, Terry Karichner, 33K-Kevin Trimpey, Troy Bennett and Ella Kaufman. Heat races were won by Maines and Kline.
The Clinton County Speedway will be back in action this Friday night, July 18th featuring the Laurel Highlands Race Saver Sprint Cars, Pro Stocks, 270 Micro Sprints and the 4 Cylinders. Gates open at 5PM; Hot laps are at 7PM and Racing Begins at 7:30. For more speedway information, visit clintoncountyspeedway.com or visit us on Facebook.
