6th Annual Don Gumke Racers' Memorial Results & Recap

This past Saturday was a very special night at the Jamestown Speedway as the 6th Annual Don Gumke Racers' Memorial took place with the Legendary Tour for the INEX Legends and Mary Vetter Challenge for the Bombers/Hobby Stocks. The top drivers from around the region were here to compete in the IMCA Modifieds, Wissota Street Stocks, INEX Legends as part of the Legendary Tour, Wissota Midwest Modifieds, Bombers with the Mary Vetter Challenge, and Jr. Slingshots. The weather was iffy throughout the day, but it turned out to be a beautiful evening for racing as the rain missed us to the South and East. The racing action was outstanding on Saturday as the track was quite fast, had some character, and had multiple grooves to use throughout the evening. We had lots of action throughout the night and thank you to the Jamestown Speedway track prep crew for their time spent on the Speedway.

We want to thank all of the drivers, fans, and track workers that came out to celebrate the life of Don Gumke and all of our fallen drivers and track volunteers over the past several years. From all of us at the Jamestown Speedway, we hope everyone enjoyed the event and had a great time as we honored these great drivers and individuals. Additionally, we have to thank all of our sponsors and supporters of the 6th Annual Don Gumke Racers' Memorial. A huge thanks goes out to Don Wilhelm Inc. & your Heartland Chevy Dealers, I-29 Trailer Sales, Dakota Engine Builders, the Gumke & Dieterle families, Dacotah Speedway TV, and many more for their support of this great even.

We had a total of 123 cars in the pits, which was an awesome field of cars for this special race. Congratulations goes out to our winners and runner-ups during the 6th Annual Don Gumke Racers' Memorial:

Bombers/Hobby Stocks - 21 Cars (MARY VETTER CHALLENGE):

  • Winner: Travis Edinger, Runner-Up: Erik Busche
  • Hard Charger: Dillon Thorpe +6 (15th to 9th)

A fast and hard fought race in the Bombers/Hobby Stocks. A lot of drivers were mixing up positions up front during the feature event. It started with Travis Edinger and Cade Gentzkow on the front row with Edinger and Erik Busche quickly battling for the lead. Travis Edinger and Erik Busche were having a great battle up front as Brody Michaelsohn was working his way into the battle up front from his 11th start position. Edinger and Busche ran side by side, lap after lap, until Busche got loss coming out of turn 2 with only 7 laps remaining and that opened the door for Brody Michaelsohn and last week's feature winner Ryker Vetter to challenge for the lead. A caution came out with 5 laps to go and under the caution, Brody's car stalled in turns 1 and 2 which led to him being pushed into the pits and out of the race. After that, it looked like Travis Edinger was going to be on cruise control, but Erik Busche rejoined the mix and was looking to the bottom through each turn to get the lead. Travis Edinger and Erik Busche battled throughout the end of the race and Edinger crossed the finish line with his first win of the season as part of the Mary Vetter Challenge. Erik Busche finished Ryker Vetter finished 3rd, Karlie Hoerner finished in 4th, and Cade Gentzkow in his first race of the year rounded out the top 5.

Wissota Midwest Modifieds - Sponsored by Gerdau Recycling - 18 Cars:

  • Winner: Kyle Anderson (1st Career Wissota MW Modified Win!), Runner-Up: Arin Beyer
  • Hard Charger: Kyle Anderson +8 (9th to 1st) & Cylen Vargason +8 (12th to 4th)

It was an awesome battle up front throughout the Gerdau Recycling Wissota Midwest Modified feature race. A lot of drivers were mixing up positions up front during the feature event. The race started with Jaren Wibstad, your two time defending track champion, and Arin Beyer on the front row with each driving putting on a great show for the lead. The race went green for the first several laps and Wibstad was on the high side of the 1/4 mile speedway and Arin Beyer was running the bottom of the track. They battled side by side for the first 10 laps of the race and swapped the lead back and forth. On a restart with around 10 laps to go, Wibstad got tight in turns 1 and 2 and drove off of the track, coming back onto the track in around 10th place. This opened the door for Beyer to drive out to the lead, but a hard-charging Kyle Anderson was working the bottom of the Speedway and worked his way up to 2nd and Memphis Klassen from Winkler, MB was up to 3rd. A caution came out for Klassen unfortunately with 6 laps remaining as the driver broke out of turn 4. This setup a shootout for the last few laps and it was a battle between Arin Beyer, who was running the middle of the speedway and Kyle Anderson who was running lower on the track. The white flag flew and Anderson got a great run out of turn 2 on the bottom and was side by side with Beyer through turns 3 and 4 and ended up getting a better run down the front straightaway to pick up his 1st career Wissota Midwest Modified feature win! It was a great run by Arin Beyer who took home 2nd, Jaren Wibstad worked his way up to 3rd, Cylen Vargason had a great run in 4th, and Phil Christlieb rounded out the top 5.

INEX Legends - Sponsored by Wright Insurance Agency - 33 Cars ($300 to Win - LEGENDARY TOUR):

  • Winner: Donavin Wiest & Runner-Up: Noah Madler
  • Hard Charger: Gus Jensen +12 (21st to 9th)

It was the LEGENDARY TOUR night at the Jamestown Speedway for the INEX Legends. The race started with Tanner Jones and Donavin Wiest up front as Alex Kukowski, who was scheduled to start 2nd, was pushed into the pits under the pace laps. Tanner Jones from New Jersey took control of the race with Noah Madler, Donavin Wiest, Preston Martin, Ty Olson, and Gage Madler in tow. Preston Martin started making his way to the front with 5 laps completed as Preston went to the middle line on the track and was quickly moving towards the front. Preston passed Donavin, then Noah, and was on the back bumper of Tanner Jones with 8 laps remaining. Preston was working the middle groove and got side by side with Tanner through turns 1 and 2 before doing a crossover move out of turn 4 for the lead with 7 to go. Unfortunately, contact ensued between your leaders and Tanner Jones spun in front of the field and Ty Olson had no where to go as Tanner came back up the track and heavy contact was made. Both cars were heavily damaged and out of the race. Both drivers were thankfully ok after the incident and the caution was charged to Preston Martin. Preston went tailend and opened the door for Noah Madler, Donavin Wiest, Gage Madler, Andrew Bargmann, and Ryan Erdahl up front. Donavin Wiest made the pass for the win with less than 5 laps to go! It was a great battle up front for the win. Donavin Wiest and Noah Madler battled side by side for a few laps before Donavin took control with only 4 laps remaining and won the race. Kody Machart had worked his way through the field from 16th to 3rd and was challenging the leaders before breaking a right front tire rode with only a lap remaining, resulting in a DNF for Machart and the race to end under caution after the leaders took the white flag. Gage Madler finished 3rd, Ryan Erdahl finished 4th, and Preston Martin worked his way from the back to the front after the early caution to finish 5th. Congratulations to Gage Madler for winning the LEGENDARY TOUR Overall Points for 2025.

Thank you to the Legendary Tour for joining us for the Gumke Memorial Race in Jamestown on Saturday night.

Wissota Street Stocks - 19 Cars:

  • Winner: Cole Greseth (3rd Jamestown Win in a row!) & Runner-Up: Kasey Ussatis
  • Hard Charger: Chris Ritter +7 (14th to 7th) & Chris Welk Jr. +7 (18th to 11th)

It was an awesome race up front for the win and throughout the field. Kasey Ussatis tracked down Cole Greseth and erased a 2 second lead to battle side by side for the win. They were side by side throughout the entire final lap with Cole Greseth in the middle and Kasey Ussatis on the high side and Greseth picking up his 3rd win in a row in Jamestown to start the 2025 season by only 0.041 seconds over Kasey Ussatis! Jodie Michealsohn finished 3rd, Dustin Erickson was 4th, and Jordan Johnson finished in 5th and also received added money courtesy of the Corell family.

IMCA Modifieds - Sponsored by Shocker Hitch - 23 Cars ($2,222 to Win):

  • Winner: Quentin Kinzley, Runner-Up: John Corell, Third Place: Dave Shipley
  • Hard Charger Bonus: Andy Kapp +10 (17th to 7th)

The IMCA Modifieds concluded the evening in memory of Don Gumke and what a race! It was an awesome battle up front throughout the Shocker Hitch IMCA Modified feature race throughout the 25 lap affair and $2,222 up for grabs to the winner. A lot of drivers were mixing up positions throughout the field during the feature event. The race started with Jordan Sours and Marcus Tomlinson on the front row. The race for the lead was intense for the first few laps between Sours and Tomlinson, but cautions flagged the first 2-3 laps of the feature. This allowed drivers that started a little deeper in the field such as John Corell, Quentin Kinzley, John Nord, Scott Gartner, and Dave Shipley to make a bid for the lead. Onto the ensuing restart, Quentin Kinzley was running the extreme high side of the 1/4 high-banked mile oval and was building up a ton of Speedway while John Corell overtook Marcus Tomlinson and John Nord for second on the extreme bottom side of the side. Kinzley and Corell battled for the next 15 laps as they hit lap traffic. Lap traffic was hurting Kinzley on the way top side of the track as John Corell was making up time on the bottom to catch Kinzley and take over the lead with 9 laps remaining. Kinzley were battling hard through lap traffic as Kinzley was on the high side, Corell on the bottom and behind them it was a battle with Tomlinson on the bottom, Nord on the high side, Sours on the bottom, and Shipley on the high side. A caution waved with 6 laps to go with Corell in front. On the restart, Corell went back to the bottom and Kinzley cleared Tomlinson for second and went back to work on the high side. Kinzley got the momentum built back up on the high side and took back the lead with 5 laps remaining. Kinzley was on the top and Corell on the bottom and battled until the checkered flag waved for the 6th Annual Gumke Memorial Championship going to Quentin Kinzley. John Corell was 2nd, Dave Shipley overtook Marcus Tomlinson at the line for 3rd, Tomlinson finished in 4th, and Jordan Sours rounded out the top 5.
