Opening at the fairgrounds in 1954, the original 0.375-mile dirt track hosted racing until 1983. The track was leveled and a rodeo stadium was installed a few years later. In 1993, racing returned to Susanville when the efforts of local racers teamed up to build the current 0.25-mile clay oval. The track has also been known as Lassen Speedway, High Desert Speedway and Susanville Speedway.
