SHAW WINS $4,000 PRO STOCK THRILLER FRIDAY AT CLAREMONT
Claremont Motorsports Park Friday, July 11, event story
CLAREMONT, N.H. - DJ Shaw was the big winner Friday at Claremont Motorsports Park, pocketing a cool $4,000 winner’s check after topping Joey Doiron in a match of Pro Stock titans in the night’s 125-lap Granite State Pro Stock Series titans at the storied Thrasher Road third mile
Other winners Friday on McGee Family Auto Night included Super Street hot shoe Robbie Streeter, Tour Type Late Model ace Stephen Donahue, Mini Stock whiz Kyle Templeton, soaring Pure Stocker Kyle Kenny, and still undefeated Ridge Runner king Carlos Grenier.
Joey Pole set fast time in GSPSS qualifying with a blistering lap of 13.990 seconds, with Pole and DJ Shaw then winning the heats. Casey Call and Jeremy Sorel then led the field to the green to begin their 125-lap battle.
Sorel led the first 11 go-rounds, with Pole then taking over and enjoying a long run at the point. Joey Doiron, though, was on the charge. Taking the lead on lap 45, he set a torrid pace ahead of Shaw until all hell broke loose on lap 105.
Exiting turn two, third-place runner Wayne Helliwell Jr’s engine erupted, as oil spilled sending Pole and Sorel heavily into the backstretch wall. Back under green, Doiron and Shaw staged a battle for the ages over the final 20 laps.
Racing side-by-side and under a blanket, the potent pair raced inches apart, with Shaw finally prevailing to win a nailbiter. Points leader Evan Bealieu was third, Cory Casagrande fourth, and home track ace Cam Curtis fifth.
Taking the lead from Aiden White on lap two of the RE Hinkley Super Street feature, heat winner Joe Tetreault took the checkers far ahead of the field in the caution-free 25-lapper. White was second under the flags, a wheel better than Tim Churchill, with Robbie Streeter rock-solid fourth.
This one, though, wasn’t official until tech inspections were complete. Streeter, aboard his Streeter Construction ride, usually guided by Brandon Gray, was awarded the win. Second went to Travis Sykes, and Robert Hagar was awarded third. Points leader Cody Schoolcraft was fifth on the night.
All three generations of the Racing Fellow family were in competition again Friday in the Tour Type Late Model division, Allen, Aaron, and Aaron Jr. And then there was Stephen Donahue.
Allen Fellows led early, but Donahue took charge on lap nine and never looked back. Aaron Fellows quickly up to second but on this night he and Donahue were evenly matched, and he scored the victory a single length ahead. Craig Smith, Aaron’s cousin, impressed in third.
Kyle Templeton kept it business as usual in the RaceDay TV Mini Stocks, He rocketed into the lead on lap three and sailed off into a different time zone. Dick LaMotte was a solid second, and ageless wonder Pat Houle finished third.
And if Templeton was impressive in the Minis, so too was Kyle Kenny in the LaValley’s Building Supply Pure Stocks. The youthful Vermonter, already a three-time winner this summer at Monadnock, struggled early on here at CMP. Not anymore.
Kenny took the lead from Gage Dillingham on lap two and then blasted off to win by a country mile. Tyler Wheatley got up for second on lap twelve and held strong for the night’s silver medal finish. Rocketman Jimmy Zellman was close behind in third, just ahead of Andrea St, Amour and points leader Colton Hull.
Another night at the races, another win for Carlos Grenier. The JP’s Trucking Ridge Runner ace stayed undefeated on the summer, winning again Friday, Trevyr Young was strong in second, and Kameron Wier joined them in Country Fuels Victory Lane with his third-place finish.
Claremont Motorsports Park returns to action next Friday, July 18, with a huge Five Dolkar Friday event, beginning with an on-track pit party followed by seven divisions of NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Racing Series action\ Featuring the Mike Brousseau Memorial 81 lap Modified event.
