We are pleased to announce the relaunch of Sons of Speed, an online automotive media destination featuring videos and written articles with a focus on high-performance vehicles for both street and track. Originally founded in May of this year as an online club for car enthusiasts that also produced track videos, Sons of Speed LLC now makes the transformation to an official media news outlet covering the news, events and cars of the day through its new website Sons-of-Speed.com, its YouTube channel and on Facebook and Twitter. Created by lifelong friends Brendan Appel, Chris Balmes and Paul Herrold, the company’s name and mission have been decades in the making.
“We’ve all been in love with cars since we can remember, and we can each trace that love back to our fathers,” says Director of Operations Brendan Appel, whose father would take him to local classic car shows, car museums and auto races at Road America. Chief Editor Paul Herrold’s father was a Dodge dealer sponsored drag racer back in the late 1960’s when Hemi-powered beasts ruled the street and the strip. Explains Herrold, “In my family cars were never just a means of transportation, they were a way of life and the faster the better!" Chris Balmes’ father passed on his love of cars working with his son on dad’s 1966 Barracuda and 1956 Chevy 3100 Step Side truck with a 327 cubic inch Corvette motor. “Each of our dads got us hooked on cars at an early age, so our name has very special meaning for us,” concludes Balmes, the company’s Director of Marketing and Brand Manager.
Sons of Speed brings a fresh perspective to car reviews, product reviews and track news. The company launches with a two-part, street and track review of the new C7 Stingray, an insider preview of the all new McLaren 570s and a video helping track-bound drivers find the race line at Gingerman Raceway. The company is proud to also have the support of pro race car drivers Josh Bilicki and Camden Murphy, who will be adding their insights on upcoming track reviews.
In addition to reviewing performance cars, Sons of Speed is available to test and review automotive and track related equipment, such as cameras, apparel and performance upgrades for any of our long-term vehicles. Our current garage consists of a 2015 Corvette Stingray Z51 (manual), 2015 Ford Mustang GT/Roush S2 (manual), and a 2015 Audi A3 2.0.
