Pozsgai Ends Season with a 2nd at Peoria!

When celebrating a birthday, most people will go out to eat, have a get together with friends, etc. When a birthday falls on a Saturday night during race season, it is still business as usual for racecar drivers. Max Pozsgai and the Pozsgai Motorsports team came one frustrating spot short from bringing the party to the Peoria Speedway last Saturday.

A strong field of 16 600 micro sprints were on hand to do battle on the ¼ mile high-banked Peoria racetrack. Max started the heat in the 3rd position, but a slow start dropped him to 4th. He eventually worked back to 3rd and finished side-by-side at the line for 2nd. With no passing points being used, the 3rd place finish would line Max up on the outside of row three for the main event.

Using the outside to his advantage, Max would jump to 5th on the start. He quickly disposed of the RaceBumpers.com entry of Jason Harms on lap two and was running 4th on lap 3 when the 8 of Andrew Funk retired from his 3rd place running position after breaking a rear axle.

On the restart, Max followed closely in 3rd behind leaders Steven Russell in the Eagle Chassis house car, and the 82 of John Parker Jr. “Once I got to 3rd I was almost biding my time, looking for an opening, and trying to find the fast line. I think I tried everything and finally found the top of 1 & 2 and the bottom in 3 & 4 to my liking,” stated Max.

What ensued was maybe the best race of the night for the 2nd position. “I got under Parker, only to have Jason (Harms) get under me also, and I split them going into 3. I was on the outside of Jason going into 1 & 2 when he got into a lap car and spun.”

This would line Max up 2nd for the final restart. “I knew I had a chance to get around Steven (Russell) on the restart because he hadn’t found the top in 1 & 2 and I was really rolling the bottom in 3 & 4.” The win was not to be though, as Max’s chain tensioner starting coming apart on the restart. “The thing shook terribly the last 3 laps, and we were lucky to even finish 2nd. All in all, it was still a pretty good night, but I would have loved to have a shot at the win at the end.”

The 2nd was Max’s 6th “Top 5” of the season. “It’s always nice to end the season running strong, and hopefully we can carry our momentum into next year. I want to thank all my sponsors, and everyone who has helped me out this year. I can’t wait for 2012!” said Max.
