Justin Duty scores MARS top-5 finishes, John earns top-10 results at Grays Harbor
Both halves of the Double Duty Motorsports team were in action over the weekend, with Justin Duty and father John each turning in strong results from the Midwest to the West Coast.
Justin Duty continued with the Midwest Auto Racing Series (MARS) Late Model Championship as the tour returned from its summer break.
On Friday, he competed in a 28-car field at the quarter-mile Farmer City (Illinois) Raceway, driving his Don Frank Floors No. 15 Super Late Model. During the 15th annual Jr. Kimler Memorial, he took second in his heat race and started the 40-lap feature from the top spot. He led the first four laps before settling into second. He finished as runner-up, 0.759 seconds behind Jason Feger. Shannon Babb rounded out the podium, with Mike Spatola and Tony Jackson Jr. completing the top five.
The next night, another 28-car MARS Late Model field took on Pevely, Missouri’s I-55 Federated Auto Parts Raceway Park in a $5,000-to-win event. Justin grabbed fourth in his heat on the 1/3-mile speedway, then started 10th and finished fifth in the 30-lap feature. He took the checkered flag following Ryan Unzicker, Michael Leach, Feger and Jeff Herzog.
Sunday’s scheduled MARS program at Quincy (Illinois) Raceways was rained out.
Justin is currently fifth in the MARS Late Model Championship standings.
While Justin Duty was competing with MARS, his father John was racing in a pair of $2,000-to-win I-5 Silver Bullet Late Model Series shows at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Washington.
On Friday, John Duty was one of 23 Super Late Model drivers at the 3/8-mile track. He notched a third-place finish in his heat race aboard his No. 5 machine and went on to start ninth and finish eighth in the 35-lap feature.
The next night, John raced in a 19-car field and scored another top-10 finish. He grabbed fourth in his heat, putting him on the sixth row to begin the 35-lap main event. He climbed two spots and came home 10th.
