Sanders takes 6th in Wild West Shootout opener
Rodney Sanders began his 2025 campaign at Vado (New Mexico) Speedway Park over the weekend with the first two days of the 19th annual Rio Grande Waste Services Wild West Shootout. In the Mars Race Cars No. 420 house car, Sanders competed in two feature events and notched a top-10 finish.
On Saturday, Sanders was among 52 Modified drivers at the 3/8-mile track for the mini-series opener. He turned in a fifth-to-second run in his heat race and started 11th in the $2,000-to-win A-Main. He climbed steadily forward in the 25-lapper en route to a sixth-place result.
The next day, 50 Modifieds were in the Vado pit area seeking the $2,000 winner’s share. Sanders again started strong, marching from eighth to fourth in his heat. He began the 25-lap feature from the eighth spot and looked poised for another good result. However, he ran into mechanical trouble with just over 10 laps remaining and couldn’t quite make it to the checkered flag. He finished 19th.
