Brennon Willard
Willard races in MARS eastern Iowa swing
Brennon Willard journeyed to the Hawkeye State from Thursday through Saturday to compete in a trio of Midwest Auto Racing Series (MARS) Late Model Championship events in the three days before Easter.
On Thursday, the MARS Late Models made their first-ever stop at Cedar County Raceway in Tipton, Iowa, for the Hawkeye Land 40. Willard’s Bilstein No. 3 car was among 43 MARS entries at the quarter-mile track. Willard finished 11th in his heat and 10th in his B-Main, bringing his night to a close short of the 40-lap, $5,000-to-win feature.
Over the next two nights, the MARS Late Model Championship competed at West Burlington, Iowa’s 3/8-mile 34 Raceway. Thirty-nine cars filled the pit area on Friday, while 38 were at the track on Saturday.
In Friday’s $5,000-to-win Prelude to the Slocum 50, Willard took ninth in his heat, then finished seventh in his consolation race to end his night in advance of the 40-lap A-Main.
Saturday saw Willard finish ninth in his heat race before picking up five spots in his B-Main to score a fifth-place result. However, he came up three positions shy of a transfer into the $10,555-to-win Slocum 50.
