Top-10 finish for Ahumada Jr. in King of America XIV finale

Carlos Ahumada Jr. raced against more than 70 other Summit USMTS Modified competitors over the weekend after journeying to Wheatland, Missouri, for King of America XIV at Lucas Oil Speedway. He saved his best for last, coming home eighth at the state-of-the-art facility in the Saturday main event.

In the Thursday opener at the 3/8-mile track, Ahumada drove his Hacienda Mechanical, Inc. No. 65x Modified to fifth in his heat race and seventh in his B-Main, ending his evening before the 30-lap, $3,000-to-win feature.

The next night, Ahumada was again unable to transfer through his heat or consolation race, but used an emergency provisional to start 28th in the 40-lap A-Main paying $5,000 to win. He came home in the same position.

His fortunes turned around on Saturday, beginning with a third-place effort in his Last Chance Qualifier. That result earned Ahumada 16th place on the grid to begin the 60-lap, $20,000-to-win finale. He climbed eight positions in the race and finished in the eighth spot.

After King of America XIV, Ahumada is 12th in the USMTS National Championship standings.
