Ryan Gets First Hoker East Series Win in East Moline Thriller
Anthony Ainslie (East Moline, IL) -- The Haulin’ with Hoker Trucking Super Late Models East Series crowned a brand-new feature winner after an action-packed Sunday night at East Moline Speedway.
The high-banked quarter-mile at the Rock Island County Fairgrounds in Illinois played host to the East Series for the second time of the season. A field of 23 cars from Iowa, Nebraska and Illinois made the trip to the second to last race of the 2022 season.

Sunday’s top qualifier was Andy Eckrich. The Oxford, Iowa driver stopped the clock at 13.313 seconds. His fellow Iowans Chad Holladay, Logan Duffy and Charlie McKenna won the three heat races. After passing and finishing points were calculated, Jeff Tharp sat on the pole for the 30-lap main event with Matt Ryan on the outside of the front row.
Tharp jumped out to the lead early on while Ryan and Point Leader Justin Kay battled for the second spot. Jeff Larson also got in on the battle up front as he swapped third and fourth with Andy Eckrich.
Multiple cautions slowed the progress of the race in the closing laps. A number of heavy hitters were involved in incidents including Chad Holladay, Dave Eckrich, Charlie McKenna and Luke Goedert among others.
It all came down to a 3-lap dash to the finish. Ryan ran the middle lane while Kay was right on the bottom lane. Ryan pulled ahead just far enough off the final corner to secure his first ever Haulin’ with Hoker Trucking East Series feature win. Ryan, the East Moline Speedway late model track champion from 2018, became the 13th different feature win between both East and West tours in 2022 and the 43rd different winner all-time.
Justin Kay had to settle for second while Jeff Tharp took his best finish of the year with a third-place performance. Jeff Larson was fourth, and Andy Eckrich rounded out the top five. Past East Moline Speedway Track Champion, Andy Nezworski was the race’s hard charger as he came from 18th to finish seventh.
Only one race remains on the 2022 season. The Haulin’ with Hoker Trucking East Series and Malvern Bank West Series will come together one last time this year to crown their tour champions at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Nebraska on October 15th.
