Moore Stings Field for LMS First at Hagerstown

Using a late race surge on the high side, Spike Moore of Defiance , Pennsylvania wheeled past polesitter Scott Palmer to claim his first ever Late Model Sportsman win at Hagerstown Speedway Saturday. Starting 4th following a heat race win, Moore initially began dropping back slightly in the field. Using cautions to his advantage, the Modified star found the high groove to his liking, taking the lead from Palmer on a lap 15 restart, and rolling to his first ever LMS win in the iconic Jim Mcbee #11. Tyler Hershey, starting 10th, stayed in Moore’s tire tracks, taking runnerup honors, after starting 10th. Palmer came home third, followed by Cody Breeden and Kyle Hardy. Heats for the 31 cars on hand went to Moore, Palmer, Kyle Lear, and Bobby Beard.
Taking a page out of Moore’s book, Jacob Whitt of Stephens City, Virginia also used a late race surge to power by Allen Whitt Jr, laying claim to his first win of the season in the Booze Brothers Performance Crate Late Model Feature. Starting 3rd, Whitt shadowed the leader, eventually powering by to become the third winner in as many races this season. Kristopher Hutton came home second, followed by Ed Pope III, Cuyler Upperman, and Whitt Jr. Heats for the 20 cars went to Jacob and Allen Whitt.
Using the pole starting spot to his advantage, Jason Stoner of Mercersburg, Pennsylvania survived an early intense battle with Rob Nichols, eventually fending off 2 time winner Steve Kent to take his first Semi Late win of the season, thus becoming the 5th winner in 6 events to date. Kent rode home second in the feature, maintaining his points lead, with Bryan Kerns, Bill Sheehan, and Tony Hugueley rounding out the top five. Kent was the top qualifier for the evening, but had to start 6th after being the previous weeks winner.
After losing by a scant few inches the previous week, Hagerstown’s Keith Reed redeemed himself Saturday, surging past points leader Dylan Beavers midway through the event in the 15 lap Pure Stock main event, thus securing his third win of the season. Beavers held on for second, followed by William Ecton Jr, Blake Reed, and James Speelman. Reed took the top qualifying honors as well.
This Saturday, the Late Model Sportsman class will be back in action with the Booze Brothers Performance Crate Late Models, Semi Lates, and Limited Stocks, for their second appearance of the season. Saturday will also feature the Hoosier Mamma vs American Daddy Tire Throwing Contest during intermission. Pit Gates open at 4:30, Grandstands at 5, with warmups at 7pm.
