Breeden Collects First Career LMS Win at Hagerstown

By Buddy Long
For the sixth time in seven races, Hagerstown Speedway found yet another new winner in the Late Model Sportsman Class as Fairplay, Maryland driver Cody Breeden scored his first career feature Saturday night. Starting fourth following his heat race win, Breeden grabbed the lead from Brian Booze early in the event, eventually cruising to his first career win in impressive fashion. Booze held on for second followed by points leader Wesley Bonebrake, DJ Myers, and Kyle Lear. Heats for the 23 entries went to Breeden, Booze, and Brayden Anderson.
Equally impressive was the performance by Scott Sweeney Jr, as the Stephens City, Virginia driver held an early lead, then staved off a last ditch effort by Tyler Horst in taking the Booze Brothers Performance Crate Late Model event, taking his first of the year, thus becoming the fourth winner in as many events. Horst roared back for second following his pole start, followed by Allen Whitt Jr, Cuyler Upperman, and Avery McMellen. Horst and Upperman took the heats.
In the 15 Semi Late Main Event, Dillon Wilson of Cassville, Pennsylvania won an early intense battle with Brady Neff, eventually cruising to his first win of the season, in the process becoming the sixth winner in 7 events this year. Bryan Kerns rode home second followed by Michael Grady, Jeremy Mills, and Brian Swiger. Wilson was also the top qualifier for the evening.
For the second time this season, the Limited Stocks made an appearance with Littlestown, Pennsylvania’s Nick McDaniel dominating the 12 lap main, taking his second win in as many weeks, following his win at Lincoln Speedway the week before. Robbie Carroll won the dogfight for second with Jeff Foster, James, Fairall, and Eric Moats completing the top 5. Heats went to McDaniel and Carroll.
This week, Hagerstown switches to Sunday evening, with the third stop of Appalachian Mountain Speedweek for the Super Late Models. The event is also in conjunction with the Frank Sagi Tribute, honoring the legendary announcer. Honorees will be famed car owner Barry Klinedinst, Booper Bare, and Dave Wilt. It will also be ARCH Night at the speedway with warmups beginning at 6:30.
