Rain Shortened show has Three Thrilling Features: First-Time Wins for Josh Ferry and Brad Rapp while Ricky Peterson claims second 410 Victory
The Hovis Auto & Truck Supply 410 Sprint Car feature at Tri-City Raceway Park turned into the Ricky Peterson Jr. Show, as the Rossburg, Ohio driver stormed to the front from his fourth starting spot and never looked back. Peterson led all 25 laps and cruised to his second win of the season at the half-mile Franklin oval.
“It just felt hooked up tonight,” Peterson said in victory lane. “The car was great, and I could go wherever I needed. Big thanks to my team and everyone who helps make this happen.”
While Peterson set the pace out front, the real fireworks were happening behind him.
Dusty Larson had a night to remember, scoring a career-best second-place finish. Larson ran strong all race long, holding off a determined challenge from National Sprint Car Hall of Famer Danny Smith. The veteran made his first Tri-City appearance in several years and showed he hasn’t missed a beat, racing wheel-to-wheel with Larson before settling for third.
Smith had to fend off a hard-charging Brandon Matus in the closing laps, while Jonathan Preston, making his first-ever start at Tri-City, impressed with a solid fifth-place finish.
Josh Ferry made a big statement Friday night at Tri-City Raceway Park, notching his first career win in just his fifth start in The Flea Flicker LLC Super Models division. And he did it in style — leading wire-to-wire and holding off a furious late-race charge from teenage sensation Brock Pinkerous.
“This is huge,” Ferry said in victory lane, beaming. “It’s something we’ve worked so hard for, and to get it this early in our Super Model career — it’s just unbelievable. The car was hooked up all night. I can’t thank my team enough; they gave me everything I needed. Holding off Brock there at the end wasn’t easy, that kid’s the real deal.”
Pinkerous, who started eighth, had the fans on their feet as he sliced through the field in the closing laps, nearly reeling in Ferry before the checkered flag. The second-place finish marked a career-best for the young driver in Super Late Model action at Tri-City.
Veteran Jared Miley was also on the move late in the race, closing fast but running out of laps to settle for a strong third-place finish. Levi Yetter and Darrell Bossard completed the top five.
The 21st Century Energy Group Big Block Modifieds brought excitement and drama as Brad Rapp captured his long-awaited first career victory on the half mile, holding off a hard-charging Erick Rudolph for a popular and emotional win.
Jim Rasey jumped out to the early lead at the drop of the green flag, but the caution flew on lap one when Travis Shingledecker spun in turn three, bunching the field back up. On the ensuing double-file restart, Rapp powered to the front, utilizing the high groove to perfection.
The action came to a halt on lap 8 with a red flag after Rick Regalski made heavy contact with the frontstretch wall. Fortunately, Regalski emerged unscathed and walked away from the incident.
When racing resumed, Rapp never looked back. He ran a flawless race, fending off relentless pressure from Erick Rudolph lap after lap. Rudolph, the talented Ransomville, NY driver, gave it everything he had but couldn’t find a way around Rapp and was forced to settle for second.
"This is such a huge relief — I finally got the monkey off my back," said a smiling Rapp in Victory Lane. "Holding off a guy like Erick [Rudolph] isn't easy. He’s one of the best out there, and I knew I had to hit my marks every single lap. I’m just so proud of my team and thankful for everyone who’s supported me.”
Brian Swartzlander brought his car home in third, while Garrett Krummert and Kyle Fink rounded out the top five in a strong showing of top-tier Big Block talent.
Just as the Complete Car Care Center RUSH Sprint Cars were set to hit full throttle, Mother Nature had other plans. Rain began to fall right as the sprints rolled onto the track, prompting a 15-minute holding pattern. Unfortunately, the weather didn’t let up—in fact, it picked up—and track officials were forced to postpone the remaining feature events for the evening.
But don’t worry, race fans—make-up dates are already locked in. The Shawgo Real Estate Pro Stock feature will now be run on June 27, while the Complete Car Care Center RUSH Sprint Cars and the Clarion County Community Bank RUSH Stock Cars will make up their A-mains on July 11.
