WACKY WEEKEND FOR MURPHY AT THE DELLS
WACKY WEEKEND FOR MURPHY AT THE DELLS
6/24/15
Coming off of a strong run at Jefferson Speedway and having Madison rained out, the CMR team still felt confident going to the Dells Raceway Park. Mother Nature was a threat all day but she decided to hold off after a quick rain at the beginning of the day so we could get our racing in.
Right off of the trailer the #85 Ronald McDonald House of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana Chevy ran well. With over 100 laps on Camden’s practice tires the team was satisfied with how the truck performed. Going into Qualifying they knew what they needed to do but the truck was still a little too loose to get the pole. Satisfied qualifying 2nd, the team was getting ready for the heat race with just a minor change. With no concern for the Heat race, Camden was using it to save the tires and see what the truck needed for the 40 lap feature event.
With the invert implemented, Cam would start in the 8th position. At the drop of the green flag, he was on the move working the outside line while making his way all the way up to 4th by the 15th lap. After several cautions and the truck roughed up a little bit, Camden was starting in 3rd with 10 laps to go. Once the green dropped everyone started bouncing off of each other like a pinball machine. When that was happening Camden was hit hard two times in a row on the passenger’s side. The second hit caused him to grab a little air as the right front tire touched another trucks tire. Once that happened, something broke in the truck making it drag on the ground all the way around the track. As determined as Camden was, he was able to somehow hang on and capture a 2nd place finish.
Camden commented on the race in a post-race interview, “That has to be one of the roughest races I have been in in my 9 years of racing”. The #85 True Power Oil Chevy was beat up and broken, but we will have it back together for the next race on July 11th at State Park Speedway and it will be better than ever.
All of this wouldn't be possible if we didn't have our great partners like The Ronald McDonald House of Chicagoland and Northwestern Indiana, True Power Racing Oil, Car Doctor Jr., O’Hare Auto Body, Mark Signs, and 83 & Devon CITGO.
