MURPHY HOLDS OFF SPS VETERAN FOR THE VICTORY

7/15/15

After a solid run at Dells Raceway Park, with some heavy damage mid race, Murphy knows going to State Park Speedway will still be a tough race to win. SPS regular Derek Kraus and SPS Track Champion and Veteran Jeremy Lepak know the track like the back of their hand, and with few laps and tough luck in the past; the CMR team knew they needed to be on their game.

The CMR team practiced on 100+ lap tires and were not able to get a good idea where the truck was. Even during the last practice session and qualifying the tires the team had on went haywire. At all of the different sized racetracks they go to a difference between your left and right side tires is needed and is called Stagger. Unfortunately the stagger that they were looking for was not possible with the tires they have. After struggling with tire sizes the team had to settle with what they had.

At the drop of the green flag Murphy battled for the lead on the outside of Rick Corso and was able to get by just 3 laps in. From there, Camden was able to stretch a comfortable lead but with the bad stagger the truck still wasn’t handling correctly. With 8 laps to go the caution flag was flown for a spin off of turn 4. That allowed Veteran Jeremy Lepak to start up alongside of the #85 machine for the restart. At the drop of the green they battles hard for the lead but Camden was able to clear Lepak and continue his lead. With 6 to go another yellow flag was flown for another spin off of turn 4. This time, weekly late model driver Derek Kraus started on the outside of Camden. At the drop of the green it was another hard battle for the lead but Murphy was once again able to clear for the lead. For the last time, another yellow flag was flown for another spin in the middle of turn 3 and 4. This time it was with 3 laps to go causing a green, white, checkered finish. A GWC is when the green flag is flown, then the next time by the white flag is flown signaling one lap left, and then the checkered flag for the finish. This time it was a single file restart to the finish. At the drop of the green Murphy was able to hold off Lepak for the victory.

All of this wouldn't be possible if we didn't have our great partners like The Ronald McDonald House of Chicagoland and Northwestern Indiana, True Power Racing Oil, Car Doctor Jr., O’Hare Auto Body, Mark Signs, and 83 & Devon CITGO.
