MURPHY CLOSE TO VICTORY AT MADISON
MURPHY CLOSE TO VICTORY AT MADISON
7/20/15
Coming off a win at State Park Speedway the Camden Murphy Racing team was feeling confident going into the American Ethanol Truck Series event at Madison International Speedway on July 17, 2015.
With the mother nature being hot and humid the team knew there wasn't going to be much grip on track. Going into the first practice the team struggled to come close to what they needed on stagger. But they fought hard and made it work with what they had and made changes to the truck accordingly.
Leading into qualifying Camden wasn't sure what to expect with the truck after having tire troubles in practice. To make means worse, there was an unfortunate timing loop problem during Camden's qualifying run and his run only. The timing loop is what is used to keep track of times and scoring during races and qualifying. It is buried underneath the track for our transponders to detect. Since there was a problem that made Camden have to pull off the track and change the truck for more for more of a practice run, rather a qualifying run. The team will normally cool the trucks engine off as much as possible so they can tape off the girl to get maximum down force. As well as the tire pressures are usually a little different as well. After everything was able to get situated out, Camden was still able to qualify in the second spot behind Blake Brown.
The feature was a dual 20 lap feature due to truck count. The first 20 lap feature Camden started in the 3rd position and remained there for all 20 laps as the truck wasn't handling right still due to a bad stagger. Leading into the second feature, Camden was starting in the 5th position. At the drop of the green flag, he was already on the move. Battling side by side and making his way up to the 4th position by the 5th lap. As the laps kept on, Camden was battling side by side with Blake Brown for 3rd but before the pass could be made, a yellow flag came out around half way. At the drop of the green, Camden was making the move into 3rd place. With about 5 laps to go he made the pass for 2nd and was reeling in the leader. Short on laps he was able to bring it home in 2nd place for the second feature. After the overall points between both features were put together, he came home in 3rd place.
All of this wouldn't be possible if we didn't have our great partners like The Ronald McDonald House of Chicagoland and Northwestern Indiana, True Power Racing Oil, Car Doctor Jr., O’Hare Auto Body, Mark Signs, and 83 & Devon CITGO.
