With only a 3 point lead in the Championship points leading into the race at the Dells Raceway Park, Murphy knew he had to do everything he could to get as many points as possible.
The day started off strong with the #85 Ronald McDonald House of Chicagoland and Northwestern Indiana Chevy on the top of the charts in both practice sessions. After a few changes to make the Murphy machine a little bit better, he was able to qualify in the first position once again.
Leading into his heat race he knew he just had to stay clean. While starting in the back he didn't want anything to happen to the truck before the 40 lap feature event.
Unlike NASCAR, most short tracks and series like to invert their starting lineups. An invert is where the track and series has a predetermined number, and then a roll of the dice. Whatever the result of those two factors is how far back the leader has to start. Usually the number is around 7 but that night at the Dells, it was a 12. Out of the 14 trucks Murphy knew it was going to be a struggle to get to the front with so few laps. But with a Championship points lead in mind, they knew they had to fight hard.
At the drop of the green flag the field was very stagnate. Murphy was stuck on the outside with nowhere to go. Only 6 laps in, the first and only caution had come out. After only moving up 2 spots, he knew there was still time to advance a few more positions. Once the field was back to green, Camden was on the move. Passing trucks left and right to make his way up to 3rd with 10 laps to go. The truck was so good that Murphy was reeling in the top two trucks fast! With only 6 to go he was able to get to the back bumper of the second place truck but a confrontation with the 2nd place truck allowed the leader to pull away. By the time Camden was able to gain the spot, there were only 3 laps to go and that wasn't enough time for him to catch the leader. However, he ended with a solid 2nd place finish after starting in the 12th position.
The CMR team worked hard this past weekend and knew they had the truck to win. The team is excited to get back to Madison International Raceway with the Midwest Truck Series on Friday July 31st. Stay tuned on Camden's Fan Page on Facebook for more info.
All of this wouldn't be possible if we didn't have our great partners like The Ronald McDonald House of Chicagoland and Northwestern Indiana, True Power Racing Oil, Car Doctor Jr., O’Hare Auto Body, Mark Signs, and 83 & Devon CITGO.
