SOLID POINTS NIGHT FOR MURPHY AT MADISON

SOLID POINTS NIGHT FOR MURPHY AT MADISON

8/4/15

Despite a solid night at Dells Raceway Park last week starting in the 12th starting spot and finishing 2nd, the team knew there would not be enough points that night to continue the points lead in the Midwest Truck Series and knew that the following week at Madison International Speedway was important.

Right out of the trailer the #85 Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland and Northwestern Indiana Chevy was blistering fast. The team decided not to waste one of their valuable practice sessions to break in the tires for qualifying. When race tires are new, they need to be run for 2-3 laps to be broken in and ready for fast laps in qualifying. The team was prepared for this but Camden still went hard to break them in fast and put down the fastest lap he possibly could, and that is just what he did. Unfortunately the lap was just .002 seconds shy of the previous track record.

Leading into his heat race Camden started in the last starting spot but was able to drive to the front and take the checkered flag. Following the Heat race took us into the 25 lap feature event where Murphy had to only start back in the 5th position after a small invert. As soon as the green flag dropped Murphy was trying to make moves but was not able to go anywhere with a side by side battle in front of him. The yellow flag came out at lap 15 with Murphy still in the 6th position. He knew that it was going to be a sprint to the finish. At the drop of the green Camden wasted no time trying to make his way to the front. By lap 20 he was closing in on the leader. As the laps started winding down he wasn't able to get a good run off of the corner to carry the speed down the straightaway. In a last lap attempt for the lead Camden made it even down the backstretch and into turn 3. Trying to carry as much speed as he could, he came out of turn 4 as the side by side battle continued it ended with a photo-finish at the line with Camden finishing in the 2nd position by .040 seconds.

With .042 seconds separating the CMR team from a good weekend from a great weekend, the team still knew it was a solid points night. After the points were calculated the CMR team is now back in the points lead in the Midwest Truck Series! Next up is the American Ethanol Truck Series back at Madison International Speedway. With the season winding down, Murphy holds the points lead in both series. Stay tuned to stay up to date with all of the great action coming up!

All of this wouldn't be possible if we didn't have our great partners like The Ronald McDonald House of Chicagoland and Northwestern Indiana, True Power Racing Oil, Car Doctor Jr., O’Hare Auto Body, Mark Signs, and 83 & Devon CITGO.
