CAMDEN MURPHY PRESENTS ON THE ROAD TO GLORY: FRED LORENZEN AND MADE AN APPEARANCE
8/9/15
One of Camden's goals is to bring the Chicagoland area back to NASCAR just how NASCAR Hall of Famer Fred Lorenzen did it in the 60's. He wants to do just what he did and give the Millions in the Chicagoland area someone to root for in the Southern dominated sport of NASCAR.
NASCAR is known for its southern roots back on the sand of Daytona Beach to the running of Moon Shine. With names like Petty, Allison, and Jarrett there was no more room for anyone else in the early days of NASCAR racing. But there was one man that stood out from the others. He was well-spoken, professional, and handsome. That man is Fred “The Golden Boy” Lorenzen. It was his Chicagoland roots and humble demeanor that made him different. He didn’t just catch the eye of others off the track, but when you put him behind the wheel, he did things people never thought were possible. That includes his long standing record for winning 50% of the races he entered in the 1964 season. Once he decided it was time to call it quits, he came back home to Elmhurst, IL to spend his days as a successful real estate agent. Now, at the current age of 80, he resides at the Oak Brook Healthcare Center in Oak Brook, IL with an unfortunate case of Dementia. Even with his illness, you can tell he is still the man he was in his hay day and he can humbly remember just about everything from his incredible career.
Camden was fortunate enough to sit down with Fred recently and listen to his incredible stories. He was fortunate enough to be presented an opportunity by the Lorenzen family to represent Fred and his career at the LaSalle Public Library on August 6th 2015. The presentation went great and he hopes to have more in the near future. If you wish to sit in on one, we will keep you up to date on the next opportunity!
The following Saturday was an off weekend for Camden and he spent his time at the Rock-n-Roll McDonald's Icons of the Road event put on by the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland and Northwestern Indiana where roughly $72 Million worth in cars were on display. It really was an incredible sight! Camden hung out with Sim Gear where they brought their beautiful racing simulators for Fans and spectators to test their skills on their incredibly designed Professional racing simulators. You can check them out at Simgear.com for more information!
Camden will be back behind the wheel with the American Ethanol Truck Series at Madison International Speedway on Friday August 21st. Currently he is leading the points Championship in both the American Ethanol Truck Series and Midwest Truck Series but the points are tight so it will be a great show! We will have information on it shortly.
All of this wouldn't be possible if we didn't have our great partners like The Ronald McDonald House of Chicagoland and Northwestern Indiana, True Power Racing Oil, Car Doctor Jr., O’Hare Auto Body, Mark Signs, and 83 & Devon CITGO.
