ANOTHER HARD CHARGE TO THE FRONT FOR MURPHY
ANOTHER HARD CHARGE TO THE FRONT FOR MURPHY
9/23/15
Coming off of a rough weekend at Slinger Super Speedway Murphy knew he had to give it his all after losing 30 points. The next race on the schedule was at the "Tough to pass" Jefferson Speedway. Track position is everything at Jefferson as both of the corners are completely different from one another.
After the first practice Murphy felt the truck still had some speed left in it. For qualifying the #85 Ronald McDonald House - CCNI was decent but the crew ran out of time to put tape on the grill for qualifying and ended up qualifying in second place. For qualifying teams like to tape the grill and any other holes so they can make the truck as aerodynamic as possible and to get the engine to run hotter which allows it to run looser/faster. During the race, the tape comes off to allow the engine to stay cool and not overheat.
Camden started on the outside row for the heat race and was able to bring it home in a comfortable 2nd place. For the 40 lap feature, Murphy started deep in the pack in 8th position. Since Jefferson is all about track position, he knew it was going to be tough to get to the front in the amount of laps given. At the drop of the green flag, Murphy wasted no time trying to make it to the front and made it to 4th by lap 10. With a few cautions coming out, Murphy was able to make his way into the 2nd position for the last restart. He knew he had to give it everything he had since the leader had started the race up front and was able to conserve their tires while Murphy had pushed the tires harder. At the drop of the green for the restart, he tried to make the bottom line work but with the corners being completely different, the top is the preferred line. With one lap to go he made a hard charge for the front after running the leader down but was unsuccessful as the tires had had enough.
With one more race to go in the American Ethanol Truck Series, Murphy is only a few points out of the points lead. The season finale is at Rockford Speedway the first weekend of October. Camden started off with a Pole and a strong run at Rockford during the season opener. As for the Midwest Truck Series, Camden currently leads by 6 points heading into their season finale at Dells Raceway Park this Saturday September 26th. Come on out and don't miss it!
All of this wouldn't be possible if we didn't have our great partners like The Ronald McDonald House of Chicagoland and Northwestern Indiana, True Power Racing Oil, Car Doctor Jr., O’Hare Auto Body, Mark Signs, and 83 & Devon CITGO.
