McKay Wenger earns redemption with Fairbury Speedway victory
FAIRBURY, Ill. (07/07/25) – Just one week after a last-lap incident ended his bid for a season-first win, McKay Wenger returned to Fairbury Speedway and got his redemption—scoring a $2,500 victory on Saturday night.
The win came behind the wheel of a car recently purchased from 2024 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series O'Reilly Auto Parts Rookie of the Year Drake Troutman.
"I have to thank Drake—he’s been a big help," Wenger said. "We had a pretty good hot rod. We're just going to race this car when time allows, and our Curless car will be ready for the MARS races and other specials. It took a bit for my tires to get going. Once they did, it was pretty good."
Wenger qualified third overall in the 28-car field on Saturday before going on to win his heat race. He jumped to the early lead at the drop of the green in the 30-lap main event, but a high-flying Jake Little took command on lap two using the cushion. Staying composed, Wenger bided his time before reclaiming the top spot on lap 19 and led the remaining circuits to notch his first win of the season.
The two-time FALS track champion was followed across the line by Jeffrey Ledford, Mike Spatola, Myles Moos, and Rich Bell.
