Tanner Mullens
7 in a row for Mullens with Salina and 81 Speedway triumphs
Tanner Mullens continued his undefeated May on Friday and Saturday with a pair of $2,000 USRA Heartland Modified Tour (HMT) victories in his home state of Kansas.
On Friday, Mullens competed in a 26-car HMT field at Salina Speedway, racing for only the second time in a brand-new No. 02 Modified he built. He qualified ninth on the 3/8-mile oval and finished second in his heat race. After the redraw, Mullens started from the top spot in the 30-lap feature. He led every circuit and survived a late restart to take the checkered flag 2.538 seconds ahead of Dustin Hodges. Third place went to Tad Davis, with Bobby Williams and Randal Schiffelbein Jr. rounding out the top five.
The next night, the Heartland Modified Tour moved to Mullens’ home track, 81 Speedway in Park City, Kansas. He turned in a dominant performance at the 3/8-mile speed plant. He set quick time overall in the 40-car field, won his heat, and again led every lap of the 30-lap A-Main after starting on the pole. His margin of victory was 2.918 seconds over Tyler Davis, with Paden Philllps coming home third. Tad Davis and Joe Duvall finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
With Mullens’ two most recent victories, he has now won seven features in a row dating back to the last weekend in April. He has also claimed eight feature triumphs overall in 2025 and has won all four of his HMT starts this year.
